Cressey Spotlight - Julian Kendall

Growing With Purpose: A Conversation with Julian Kendall

At Cressey, we believe great places start with great people and we’re lucky to have many long-standing team members who’ve grown their careers alongside the communities we help build. One of them is Julian Kendall.

Our Vice President of Development, Julian has been with Cressey for over 13 years. His journey from Development Coordinator to a key leadership role reflects not just personal growth, but also the kind of trust and ownership that define our culture.

We sat down with Julian to talk about his experience, the project he’s most proud of, and what sets Cressey apart in the world of development.

You’ve been at Cressey for more than a decade. What’s kept you here?

It really comes down to the people and the culture. From day one, I’ve felt supported, not just in the work itself, but in being given the opportunity to take real ownership of projects. That kind of trust and responsibility makes a big difference. You get to see your work come to life in a meaningful way.

Can you walk us through your path at Cressey?

I started as a Development Coordinator and then moved into a Development Manager role. Over time, I took on larger projects and more leadership, and I’m now the Vice President of Development. The growth has been gradual but steady, and I’ve always felt like there was room to keep moving forward here.

What’s a project that really stands out to you?

Century is one I’m especially proud of. It’s a rental project in the North Vancouver that we approached with the same level of care and detail as a high-end condo. The amenity programming and the overall design really push the standard for what rental can be. It’s a great example of how we do things differently at Cressey.

What makes Cressey’s approach to development unique, in your view?

We don’t build out of necessity, we build because we want to. Every project is a chance to do something well, something thoughtful. We aim to leave a lasting impact in the neighbourhoods we’re part of. That mindset keeps things interesting, and I think it’s a big part of why we have such strong retention across the company.

Any advice for someone starting out in this industry?

Look for a team that values your perspective and gives you room to grow. When you have ownership over your work, it changes how you approach everything. That’s definitely been true for me at Cressey.
